Those hours that with gentle work did frame
The lovely gaze where every eye doth dwell
Will play the tyrants to the very same,
And that unfair which fairly doth excel
Did Shakespeare think, writing these lines, that they would turn out to be prophetic? Unlikely. However, today they can be quoted, describing the current situation in Europe.
The world of digital technology has absorbed us so much that simple spiritual values have been forgotten. Love, happiness, faith – these words are no longer attached to the meaning that was a couple of centuries ago. And although we stubbornly deny it, I’m sure this is what each of us needs.
And, to find these feelings in ourselves, there is only one way out – volunteering. Why is it the only one? Why will it be so important in the future?
Firstly, it reminds us of what it means to be a human-being. Putting the needs of someone else’s over our own ideas pushes us to bring the best of ourselves. That builds generosity, grit, openness – the qualities which the society lack. And this is the only what reminds ourselves what it is to love, be there for somebody and value a spiritual connection but not a materialistic one.
Secondly, the Europe has already suffered a lot from contaminated rivers, polluted air and a big amount of plastic, volunteers are the people who can change that. And such laws as ban on plastic dishes, tree planting project give us hope that people can still live in a better place.
The best thing of it is that anyone can become a volunteer despite their age, sex, religion etc. Even although we have made huge progress in science, technology there are still unhappy homeless children, disabled and poor people, who every single day need your help.
