I’d like to present my vision of the sport’s impact on the EU community nowadays and its development in the future, namely in 2050. The topic sounds rather radical. You may think that sport isn’t so influential to call it a revolutionary instrument for changing people’s habits. But I’ll try to persuade you that my forecast does have sense.
Nowadays, the role of sport can’t be overestimated. The EU government understands its necessity and launches various sports campaigns for involving people of different ages and fitness level in sports activities. The EU Commission considers sport issues an integral part of the general policy and annually approves a special budget for supporting sport.
There are many striking examples, among which is the European week of sport, held in 2018, where almost 15 million participants were involved and dozens of events were organized. The other example is Sport and citizenship forum, a powerful think tank, aimed at analyzing the significant societal impact of sport. Since 2017 BeInclusive EU Sport Awards has been held. Its aim is to promote social inclusion through different sports. Such measures attract people and currently the tendency is opposite to that of 2014, when losing of interest in sport among Europeans was observed.
There are hundreds of marathons, organized in different EU countries and in 2050 the number will grow dramatically. Besides, widespread sport fields, such as CrossFit will reach an advanced level.
I’m sure, that in 2050 more European people will understand the importance of being engaged in sport and will consider it a valuable tool for staying fit and healthy, preventing the urgent problems (obesity, depression, loneliness, etc.). It’s scientifically proved that absence of exercising can be worse for a person’s health than smoking! It will unite society and make it happier.

I suppose that in 2050 sport will be prescribed by doctors as a compulsory part of medical treatment of a number of diseases and conditions (premature aging, cancer, Alzheimer, cardiovascular disorders etc.).
I believe, that sport drives the development of society and in the future, its impact will be even more crucial. There is no obstacle in staying active, sport is becoming more and accessible for Europeans. By 2050 resilient sport habits will develop; sustainability of sport sector will be provided; funding of sport organizations will grow; sport will make the EU community more cohesive.
Personally, I do crossfit, I adore sport and I am sure that the sport will change our future.
