May Helmy holds a master degree in French language and literature, major civilisation and arts from Alexandria University in Egypt.  Throughout her studies, she examined conflict and peace issues, while discovering the different notions of conflicts and how they affect identities and affiliations through time.

While working with the Networks team of the Anna Lindh Foundation, she had the opportunity to interact with civil society of 42 countries in the North and South of the Mediterranean and gain a vast experience in the development and civil society fields.

She monitored and participated in different Euro-Mediterranean projects that aim to temper conflicts, fight extremism and islamophobia, and establish diversity and peace. She also often takes part in the activities of different NGOs aiming to empower youth and women.

She is currently responsible for university cooperation and Campus France Egypt at the “Institut français d’Egypte” in Alexandria, the French agency for the promotion of higher education and international mobility.

May is fluent in French, English, and Arabic.
